Winter Activities
Lost River Valley has a robust winter season with plenty of snow for any winter outdoor adventure. A multitude of cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails await in the forests that blanket the Lost River Valley.
Hunting
Anyone born after January 1, 1975, is required to successful complete hunter education before purchasing a hunting license, tag, or permit. When hunting, you must have the required license in your possession and the appropriate tag or permit depending on what you will be hunting and the weapon you will be using. If you prefer to use a guide for the best experience, there are many available in the area.
Rock Hounding
Idaho’s nickname is the Gem State and Custer County, home of Mackay, Idaho is considered of the best places to hunt for gems in the state. Rockhounding is legal in Idaho, but it’s essential to adhere to all local and state laws and regulations when it comes to collecting. These laws aim to protect the natural environment, maintain the integrity of public lands, and ensure sustainable rockhounding practices. It is the responsibility of each rockhound to obtain permission from a landowner to search and/or collect on a piece of property.
